During math class, there was a worksheet for constructing triangles. Our teacher only told us to make one since it was a half day and there was other things to go over. With free time after the lesson, I wanted to try to construct the triangle with only three angles as the given info (since I had no friends to talk to and it seemed better than staring at a wall).
One boy who I had no idea was a part of my class stood in front of my desk and told me, "Stop working, put your tools and books away. No, you just need to stop working on that and pack up since class is almost over." I tried to say something, but then he continued, "You should be lazy, and not work on that. Eat a hamburger, like the American way."
It's too bad that the American Way for him is "being lazy and having his parents work their butts off for his sake," when the common theme to the American Dream is to "work hard for what you want."
There's also the Smart Way, and that's "don't waste your efforts on things that aren't worth it." My breath is worth more than the time it takes to explain that the underlying reasons for using a condescending vocal tone and his specific word choices reeks of an ego and his sense of superiority that will also block him from comprehending my rationale. It's better to make an effort pray to God that he will find the right path in life and be successful, because I feel that's nice and helpful at least.
Of course, there will be those people who will try to be a wise ass, and ask why I am typing this journal. Everyone has their reasons. There's no such thing as a 'wrong' reason, but there certainly are questionable ones.
On a last note, hamburgers aren't everything.
